Watch Mathiyosi Movie watch online

“Maathi Yosi” means “think differently”. Hence, one expects something new in the film. Director Nandha Periyasamy’s second directorial venture after “Oru Kalluriyin Kathai” (2005) does have something new in the form of backdrop, but it doesn’t have anything new in the narrative.

Set in the backdrop of a Dalit colony, film portrays prevailing caste equation well. Four adolescent youths from a Dalit colony are full of mischief and looking for opportunities to pester others. They kill a lizard, a rabbit and rob a van passing through the village. Soon they become the targets of police for various crimes and ruptures.

One day, a little Dalit girl, who cleans the temple car (chariot) in the village, joins them. She is punished by the upper caste people for spoiling the sanctity of the lord. The four boys get angry and abduct Lord Murugan along with the chariot and bring him inside their colony.

Angry upper caste people launch an attack on the boys with the help of police. The boys escape from the clutches of police, teach a lesson to the landlord and find their way to Chennai.

In the city, they steal to survive. Along the way, they get a revolver and bump into a girl called Shammu. They are forced to save her from the clutches of her greedy uncle.

The initial village scenes evoke interest, but it wanes once the boys land up in Chennai. The director, who calls upon to think differently, ironically falls into the trap of cliched formula to make the movie interesting.

Logic takes a backseat and interest created by initial scenes disappears after the entry of Shammu’s character. It looks silly to see the city-bred modern girl moving around with a bunch of raw-looking youths who don’t even bother to put on their shirts.

Editor Kola Baskar has done a good job and cinematographer Vijay Armstrong too has managed to capture the beauty of rural areas. Debutant music director Guru Kalyan’s background score passes muster and his songs leave much to be desired.

Among the actors, Ravi Maria who plays Shammu’s uncle, takes the cake with the casual portrayal of his character. Others too have done well, but have been badly hit by the shoddy screenplay.

Starting promisingly by focusing on the casteist problem, the films goes wayward and loses its opportunity to be an unique movie.

Director Meera Kathiravan ho  began his carrier with one of the finest writers of our times, the late Lohithadas. For the same reason, the Lohithadas stamps are all over Aval Peyar Tamilarasi – a rare kind of a love story set in the rural backdrop of Tirunelveli,. Its boy meets girl as usual. The boy here is Jai while the girl is debutant Nandhagi. They fall in love, but doubts and insecurities creep in when the girl is all set to leave her village to pursue higher education. What happens to their love story, how does the boy react to the upcoming separation? That forms the core of Aval Peyar Tamilarasi .The treatment of the story stands apart and the smooth narration deserves a special mention


The poetically shot Aval Peyar Tamilarasi unfolds leisurely, at the pace of a slow moving train.The feeling is instantly recognizable towards the end of the movie before which the movie has more or less opened out itself making it easy for you to deduce the finale.


Story

The street singers belonging to the Tholpavai Koothu community visit a village, Kottara Mangalam, in Tirunelveli district. There is a little girl in the group who befriends the wealthy grandchild of the village headman. After their performance, when it’s time for the singing faction to leave, the wealthy grandchild coaxes his granddad to make them stay back. His wish is granted and the family is put up in a house and the girl sent to school. Their (Jai and Nandagi) friendship develops and when they reach their school final years, they are already in love.

Nandagi passes out with good grades while Jai flunks the exams. Urged by his friends’ Corrupt advices, Jai feels insecure and takes the extreme step. He rapes Nandagi and sets off a series of life-changing incidents. As a result, Nandagi’s mother dies and she is sent to another nomadic family in Maharashtra, now that she cannot continue her studies. Soon enough, Jai Feels sorry and get on borad to trace her whereabouts.

The multifaceted Jai shows that he is in the process of grooming himself to become a well-rounded actor. Be it in expressing his warmth and love for Nandagi, his pitiless anger that is also misguided or his penance and the quest that will probably culminate with his love of life, Jai prooved us that he can bring in complex emotions on his face immediately. Nandagi is a revelation and her physicality supports the character enormously.

On the flipside, the movie is densely packed with dialogues and the lack of activity tends to slacken the pace resulting in bringing an art-house feel, which is not a bad thing, if the cause of the leading role quest was anything greater than seeking repentance for his offense – brought on him during one of his weaker moments. It happens because we stop caring for him, which again is the strength of the character, the way it’s etched out. Nevertheless, a little more editing could have helped curb the movie’s unexciting portions.

Vijay Antony’s background score gets full marks and the Otha Vaartha Sollu number is moving. P.G. Muthaiah’s camera brings the Tirunelveli region to life and the movie’s feel is greatly enhanced, thanks to the brilliant cinematography.

After scoring with this one, Meera Kathiravan might want to consider a lighter subject in his next venture – and right his vision about women ending up losing their dignity and ending up in brothel-like places (Alhough for a shorter period only in  this one) after they are raped.
